Task: Introduction to Media
1. The Media is… 300 years old? Because of newspapers and stuff.
2. The diamond sutra was made in 868 AD. It was made up of strips of paper that were printed from carved wooden blocks and pasted together to make a scroll.
3. A Buddhist text that was printed at a provincial temple in south Korea, suggests that Korean artisans had mastered the basic techniques of casting and setting. The text dates back to 1377.
4. Around 1470, William Caxton set up his own printing press in London. He was the first person to print books in England and also the first person to print books in English.

6. In 1526 AD, William Tyndale’s New Testament was published. It was the First New Testament to be Printed in the English Language.
7. In Amsterdam, the english language newspaper, “Namloo’s”, began publishing on december 2, 1620.
8. The “First Folio” was printed in 1623.
9. In 1922 the BBC was established with their radio network and in 1932 they launched their television broadcasts.
10. In 1919, the New York Daily News was established in the untied states.
11. In 1868, Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule received a patent for the typewriter.
12. Konrad Zuse invented the very first computer, many technological entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have contributed to today’s modern computer.
13. The first sensible and practical camera was built by John Strognofe in 1685.
14. In 1887, Emile Berliner invented the gramophone- a system of recording which could be used over and over again.
15. In 1892, Sony released the world’s first CD Player called the CDP-101.
16. The VCR was invented in 1971 along with the dot-matrix, food processor and the liquid-crystal display.
17. The DVD was invented/theorised in 1994 but released in 1996.
18. The nearly three-hour-long Don Juan was the first major motion picture to employ a synchronized sound system of any type throughout. It was released in 1926.
19. In the 1980’s, KDKA become the first commercial radio station.
20. The first television advertisement was broadcast on July 1, 1941 in the united states. It advertised a baseball game 20 seconds before the actual game was broadcast. (I don’t think that’s right)
21. Monday, January 14th, 1992, was the launch of The Today Show on NBC.
